Description:

The Department of Public Works and its dedicated employees work hard keeping up with the needs of the Village through every changing season. Services include village street maintenance, sanitation, sanitary sewer maintenance, and making sure village parks and right of ways stay aesthetically pleasing for the community and visitors alike, just to name a few.


 

Seasonal Activities:

WINTER
During the winter months, the DPW plows and maintains 16 miles of Village streets

1.) Plowing snow or blowing snow into the street is unsafe and against the law.
2.) Removal of snow from sidewalks is the homeowners responsibility.

CHRISTMAS TREES
1.) Pickup begins the week after Christmas. Put trees to side of the road.
2.) Please, no metal, plastic, or lights left on trees, for the reason that the trees are chipped for compost pile.

SPRING
All roads in the Village of Whitesboro are swept to remove the winter debris as soon as weather allows.

Parks and Village parking lots are cleaned of sanding material.

SUMMER

Greenwaste pickup will be on Mondays of every week, as soon as the county compost site opens. APRIL to OCTOBER 15.

1.) Please refrain from blowing grass clippings into the street, it can cause storm sewer problems.
2.) Grass clippings and green waste  must be in containers or Mulch and leave on lawn.
3.) Brush should be no longer than six (6) feet long. Place butt ends toward the road.
4.) PROFESSIONAL LAWN CARE AND TREE CONTRACTORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVAL OF ALL THEIR CUSTOMER'S DEBRIS.
5.) Stumps and root balls should be cleaned of all dirt. Logs larger than (twelve) 12 inches in diameter will not be accepted.
6.) During the summer months, the DPW repairs infrastructure including:
A.) Catch basins and manholes that need rebuilding
B.) Mow and maintain parks
C.) Road and street repairs
D.) The Village also seals 2 1/2 miles of street per year to improve their life expectancy.
E.) Street sweeping is done on a weekly basis. Every Thursday night.
F.) Install culvert pipes for storm sewers.
G.) The DPW conducts a 50/50 Sidewalk Program every summer.
H.) Maintains sanitary sewer mains by flushing them, especially where all dead ends exist.

FALL
Leaf Pickup
1.) Leaves need to be raked to the road curbside, NOT INTO THE STREET.
2.) NO GREENWASTE WILL BE PICKED UP DURING LEAF SEASON.

All Truck's are serviced and inspected for safety in preparation for the winter season.

WHITESBORO ISSUE YELLOW BAGS
Yellow Whitesboro Issue garbage bags, large and small, are available for purchase at Kinney's Drugstore in the Whitestown Plaza, and Byrne Dairy on Oriskany Boulevard. Large bags are available for purchase by the roll, or individually at the Village Office at 10 Moseley Street. Large are $3.00 each. Small are $2.50 each. The Department of Public Works cannot pickup house waste if it is not in Whitesboro issue bags. Overstuffed bags that are torn open cannot be picked up.
